Brunel University
Named after the father of British engineering, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Brunel University is based on the outskirts of London in Uxbridge (40 minutes by underground to central London).
The central avenue that runs from the main entrance to the lecture hall complex is always bustling, and it’s where you’ll find the students’ union as well as the main library and refectory.
The centre of campus is dominated by older buildings, principally from the 1960s (although these have been smartened up in recent years so that you would hardly notice). Beyond this epicentre, however, Brunel has been busy of late erecting brand new halls of residence, academic departments, and sports facilities, that give the university an ultramodern flavour.
Notable graduates from Brunel include heptathlete Kelly Sotherton, comedian Jo Brand, and Mighty Boosh star Noel Fielding.
"My university degree was influenced by my love of sport and Brunel University fitted me very well. My course allowed me to develop my understanding of techniques and practices to improve myself and teams I played in. I was able to implement this to push myself to become an international sportsman. I made the effort to embrace university, culture and social life." Richard Hill, Brunel University
