Royal Holloway
Royal Holloway, University of London, is the farthest out of the London universities, and as such is surrounded by the Surrey countryside. It is well connected, with Heathrow Airport nearby, the M25 motorway, and a small train station at Egham that gets you into central London in about 40 minutes.
The main campus is dominated by the Founder’s Building, a Victorian chateau that many students say was their principal reason for choosing to study at Royal Holloway. Without much in the way of entertainments in the local vicinity (although Windsor is very pleasant), Royal Holloway students tend to stick to the campus for much of their socialising. As a result the Student Union doesn’t disappoint, offering up some good spaces to hang out, while all the green space gets filled with students during the summer months playing tennis, throwing a frisbee, or just lounging about with a picnic.
Former students from Royal Holloway include Victorian novelist George Eliot, singer KT Tunstall, and journalist Francis Wheen.
