University of Leicester

The University of Leicester lies half a mile or so up the London Road from the central train station (1½ hours north from London), past a wide array of restaurants and bars.

Many of the principal buildings are high-rise and contain a number of different faculties. As a result Leicester is a nicely compact campus and very easy to navigate. Next door is the spacious Victoria Park which lends a swathe of greenery that is otherwise missing from the campus itself. Accommodation is generally a fifteen minute bus ride away in the leafy suburb of Oadby. The size of the campus makes for a friendly atmosphere, as the student body is not small, so be prepared to constantly run into friends (and enemies!).

Notable alumni include the novelist Malcolm Bradbury and former England rugby player Tony Underwood. Interestingly, Richard and David Attenborough both grew up on the campus, in the house that now contains the careers service.
