University of St Andrews
The city of St. Andrews is a ten minute bus ride away from the town of Leuchars, where you’ll find the nearest train station (one hour north of Edinburgh).
St. Andrews is famous for two things – its university and its golf courses. While there may be plenty of golf shops dotted about the city, it is the university that has the biggest presence. Set in a range of buildings, form medieval turrets to state of the art biomedical laboratories, St. Andrews dominates the small city. The result is a cosy, close-knit student community that enjoys what the university and city have to offer, and adds to it extensively.
Famous graduates to have come out of St. Andrews include, of course, Prince William and Kate Middleton, TV presenter Hazel Irvine, wildlife expert Saba Douglas-Hamilton, and cyclist Chris Hoy.
