University of Sussex
The University of Sussex lies a few miles outside the seaside town of Brighton (1½ hours south from London), bordered on one side by the rolling hills of the South Downs.
It’s a self contained, green campus, that takes about fifteen minutes to walk from end to end. The architectural style is modern, with some interesting features, that give Sussex its unique flavour.
What strikes you most, perhaps, is the vibe on campus, which is busy and involved – Sussex students aren’t generally renowned for their apathy. The city of Brighton, too, is a major selling point for many of the students at Sussex, as is its proximity to London.
Notable alumni of Sussex include former South African president Thabo Mbeki, novelist Ian McKewan, rock star Billy Idol, and tennis player Virginia Wade.
